Default DIY D2B with out the adapter plate

This is just a little project me and a few others have been working on over the winter to try and combat the ovewhelming issues with the D series trans.

To start this is more of a progress DIY so if your looking for the light at the end of the tunnel right here right now then you will have to wait right along with me. The majority of this is done there are only a few little pieces that I have to finish up to call it complete.

So Ill start with the OE parts list.(All stock nothing special here)
B series tranny
B series starter
B series axles and *intermediate shaft
B series rear trans bracket(chassis dependent of course for the EH I used a 94-00 integra)
B series trans mounts
B series clutch

*Custom parts needed
Flywheel courtesy of James@Speedfactory and Competition Clutch
Drivers side motor mount Courtesy of James@Speedfactory

Additional parts
Devcon Liquid
Welder
Drill
Drill bits
A Dremel of some sort for grinding and cleaning
And a big pile of patience

*Disclaimer*
There will be modifications that will have to be done on the block tranny midshaft and rear trans bracket. I wouldnt call them irreversible but to take it back to OE would be a pain so take your time if you have question feel free to ask me I will be more than willing to answer any question that you have.*

I think that about sums up the parts list that will be needed. The first thing that I suggest to anyone that is going to try this is to get a bare block and atleast a bellhousing and put them together so you can see how close everything is and how easy this modification will be. There is one bolt that will line up directly which is one of the top two bolt holes. The other bolt will just have to be wallered out a little bit to get it to line up with the other hole on the motor.

Ok now that we see how it all will line up motor to trans wise now we look at how we are going to get the rest of the bolts to line up or make them line up. So we will now turn our attention to the motor we will be using the stock bolt holes that are already there from the factory.( no need to re engineer everything Honda gave to us right) This is where the first bit of grinding takes place. The holes Im talking about are the two that are on the front of the motor closest to the rad support. This took us a little bit of time to get perfect so dont rush this as you dont want the hole to be to big and you dont want to cut into the block alot. The first thing we did was drill through the the top bolt hole with a pilot(smaller) drill bit then progressed up till you can put the trans bolt all the way through. Now comes the task of making it sit flush you will just have to grind away till you get that bolt to sit flat going through the backside(remember D series trans all bolt from the trans side this will be the opposite since we are using a B trans now). So then we take a look at bolt hole at the bottom of the block. You will notice there is alot of material there. Best bet would be to start cutting away from this before you drill as it will take you forever to drill through this stuff.( well atleast thats how it was for us maybe the bit was dull as all hell)If you notice before you do anything that there is a slight angle to this area when you are done there should be a *90 angle so that the bolt can sit flush again the back.

Ok now that we have the block and part of the trans ready to be put together we need to figure out how we are going to get this to sit in the car. As stated in the parts list all the drivetrain with the exception of the flywheel is stock.

Since the mounts on the trans side sit in the exact place that they would in a swap there is not need to change any of this so it works out in our advantage so that then leaves the driver side mount which will have to modified in order for this to work. Believe it or not the D series trans is 1in longer than the B so that shifts the D motor over an inch. See pic for reference.

Notice the gap there?

So you may wonder how are we going to fix this.....I did to for a while after throwing around some ideas like a aluminum spacer and things of that nature. I reached out to James aka JFK_78 from Speedfactory and told him what I was trying to do he gave me some feedback and we came up with "hey why dont we just make the motor mount longer". So that is what he did and this is how it turned out.(this is just the prototype as the actual one will be much nicer and pretty for all you bling nuts out there)

Alright now that I got the mount figured out I put my attention to the flywheel clutch combo. I didnt really want to have to buy custom clutch disk and was not keen on the idea of spacing the starter either. So again I talked to James and he in turn asked Competition Clutch to make me a flywheel. That was basically a B series flywheel with a bolt pattern for a D series Crank. So with this its safe because this is SFI approved and Im not modifying a stock crank and only have to buy one custom part instead of many over time. Plus it puts the starter in the stock location and you dont have to worry about clearance either.

So this is about where Im at currently Im going to start cleaning and prepping the bellhousing for the devcon Ill show you some reference pics as to what needs to be filled and then re tapped. After that will be the half shaft that will have to be modified so that it will fit the 3 bolt holes on the back of the A6/Z6 blocks.(Im going to work on something for the Y series people) Then after that I will do the bracket for the rear tranny mount as one of the bolts on the top of the bracket has nowhere to bolt to then it will be dyno and testing.

Awesome info. Thanks for sharing with us here also. I have a cable LS trans with 96 GSR gears and a Quaife LSD sitting in the garage. I sure could put to use.

Thats why this is called "OneCamOnly" . For some its not about the price. Its about the pride in which they take in building a Single Cam motor that stomps on all others. Sure it might cost a little more money for someone to get what they want out of a Single Cam motor. But doing a swap is too easy.Step up!

Where D's are better then B's and F always comes before K

Just a few more shots of how things line up and then some pictures of what has to be filled with the Devcon

It's not that the B tranny is smaller, just the mount location is shifted, thus allowing the wider B series block.

No I measured it the D tranny is ~1in longer than the B bu the mount location does play a big role in the position as well

Just a few more reference shots to see how everything lines up in conjunction with the trans
These are pics of my modified block so you can see how things line up a little better.
