Dimming headlights due to faulty ELD?

I just purchased a 03 Accord EX-L v6 awesome car.. but I have noticed the notorious dimming headlight phenomenon that I have heard others complain about.

Symptoms.. The headlights will noticeably dim when the accelerator is depressed. This can happen at 1000 rpm or 3000 rpm it does not matter. If you are driving and you take your foot off the accelerator the headlights get brighter.. as soon as you give it any gas at all they dim. To make matters even more complicated after you drive 20 - 30 miles the problem becomes intermittent.

This has supposedly been a problem from '99 up to as new as '08 or '09 models but only seems to crop up after the car has at least 50k miles on it or so. My 2000 did not do this.. however.. after the obd1 conversion on my 99 Civic it did the same exact thing until I disconnected the ELD defaulting the alternator to high output only.

I can only assume this has to do with the ELD somehow not correctly measuring or calling for the correct alternator output. Upping from low or medium output to high output. While not detrimental to the car.. it is extremely annoying.

Has anyone else diagnosed or corrected this issue? I read through a rather long thread about it over at H-T but all there are over there are a bunch of idiots responding saying if you don't like it then buy a Chevy because its normal and used to save fuel. While that part is true.. the Low/Med/High output is suppose to be seamless to the end user. Since this did not happen to the cars when they were new it would indicate a problem somewhere.

I will start by removing the fuse box and checking all solder connections on the ELD. It may be possible that the ELD is only partially working or not working at all, falling back on the voltage regulator at the alternator to control output.. this would be very choppy thus explaining the noticeable dimming/brightening.

My girlfriend has an 88 Civic DX Wagon that illuminates the seatbelt indicator light whenever the ignition is switched off. The light will operate normally with the ignition turned to ACC or ON, but stays illuminated when the key is turned off. None of the steering column wiring seems to be tampered with and the car is pretty much bone stock so I'm having a hard time tracing the problem.

Has anyone ever run into this before?
Thanks,
