Wow!

I'm glad you got your NHRA cert, and I'm glad you are safe.

From looking at the other pistons as an indicator, it looks like the engine was running very well, and you likely had a piston with casting defects or impurities in metalurgy. Thats a tough break, but at least you did it! You've solidly got the record for stock sleeves and vitara pistons!

Did you mange to get a new personal best time before it broke? Did you experience any power loss leading up to the failure, or was it instant?

You and the rest of SpeedFactory do the best work around! We are all excited to see how the new beefier build will do.

Sorry about the blown engine, but I´m shure this is not a problem for you guys.

Best of the luck on your new sleeved and forged build.

I just wanted to get the licensing passes done before really pushing it, so all those runs were on only 23-24psi of boost with super worn out slicks (almost 60 passes on them), and normal lift shifting. Conservative passes if you will. We have new slicks to put on the car too!

All runs were 1.6 60's, first 3 were partial runs.
Run 4 also a partial run, 10.66 @ 118mph.
Run 5 was 10.5 @ 138mph, banging off limiter all through 1st and 2nd, short shifting 3rd at 8900rpm.
Run 6 was the quickest run yet but then I missed 3rd gear and went 11.0 @ 130mph.

They still gave me my license though because the missed gear was the only reason for the low mph, and they have seen the car trap over 135mph several times before.

Basically, the car would've went ~10.4 @ 140mph @ 23-24psi had it not come apart.

On the run where I missed the shift it showed signs of something being wrong, but I really wanted to run it again just to try and get that last 135+mph pass in before the track closed. I lined up, did the burnout, and then we heard rattling in the motor as I was staging. We should've just stopped then but I ran it anyways and it let go on the 1-2 shift.

Yeah, we'll see. Probably go 600whp and work up from there due to the tranny situation.

^^^ i would like to see a vitara setup in the 9s also..maybe you could be the first, but looking at your build/ dyno sheet and your powerband/ transmission combo would make it difficult to see 10s. Making the power is one thing, but it being usable and staying in it is another..

he was talking about it being difficult for my setup to hit 10's.

right now my setup is in my daily driver. i am working on a mild N/A build for daily driving and this setup is being swapped into a 91 hatch. its being put together to run the GRM $2009 challenge. once that is over, then i am going to make a few changes to the setup and shoot for 9's. its going to the challenge with the same daily tune of 310whp at 15psi.

anyway, thats off topic. sorry James. i need to start a thread soon for this car

Update:

Sleeved motor is in progress as we speak. There'll be another thread on that build.

As for the vitara motors:

We rebuilt another 75mm vitara motor for BOTI Woodburn about a month ago-

Y7 bottom end with standard length FJT rods
Ported Z6 head that flowed the same as the Y8 one
Same turbo setup except ramhorn manifold instead of the topmount
Bisimoto 2.4 cam this time (now called the 3.6)

At 29-30psi, it made 560whp/380tq. Identical shaped power curve, just 20ft-lbs of torque less across the rev range which equates to ~40 less whp up at 9000+rpm.

Overlaying this motor w/the 609whp motor, it was running slightly less boost. That in combination with the C/R change accounts for the 20-24ft-lbs of torque loss across the board.

I haven't gotten any good passes in with this motor yet, the clutch didn't hold up. The one crappy pass I made had a horrid 1.825 sixty foot and the clutch was starting to slip, and went 10.49 @ 139mph. I usually pull mid 1.6's, so it should do quite a bit better, just need a clean run with a good clutch.

We tried to run it this past weekend. They spent 6hrs drying and prepping the track, and then only allowed one 1/8th mile pass.

I tried dropping the launch rpm to 6500rpm for the heck of it since it was going to be a stupid pass anyway. Didn't work very well, 6500rpm and 10psi on the antilag and it just completely fell on it's face.

I'm pretty sad that we didn't get to run it and all the tracks are closed for the winter now. I really wanted to give this vitara motor one last hurrah before we put the sleeved motor in. Looking for a way to possibly get it down to Fontana now.......

Getting it to Fontana would be Ideal for sure... I wish Sophi and I could go to the event. Good luck to you guys down there.

Thats why this is called "OneCamOnly" . For some its not about the price. Its about the pride in which they take in building a Single Cam motor that stomps on all others. Sure it might cost a little more money for someone to get what they want out of a Single Cam motor. But doing a swap is too easy.Step up!

Where D's are better then B's and F always comes before K
