Help a schmuck decide. Azenii or RE-11s?
Ok, part of getting my CRX back on the road involved new tires. I rocked Azenii and some Bridgestone olds chool RE-730s back when I first got rims. I am obviously look at summer performance tires in the 205-50-15 range. No, I am not going larger, as I think that is gay. I am considering Rota Auto-X in 15x6.5 as I reeeeeeally want a set of SSR Type-Xs (Bone knows how long I've wanted them) but can't afford them. Another option is the Rota Track R2 in 15x7.
Rota Track R2
Offers free shipping and mounting and balancing on sets. So, for just over 900, I can get new tires and rims. I can ge the RE-11s from Tire rack with some Motegi 15x7s (SP10) for slightly more.
Thoughts?

Dangit, I totally forgot about the Rota R8. I like those, too, and I could even be a tard and go with a 15x8 rim, if a 205 would benefit from that. I like rim protection, so I've probably go with the x7 option. Hmmmmm . . .
So, R8s and Azeii?

actually how much stiffer the bar is? 510% stiffer.

You may want to check out 949Racing They make the 6UL in 15x7/7.5/8/or 9 and have a few different finishes available as well. I've been running the 15x8 (with both 225 and/or 205) for a while now and can attest that they stand up to track abuse very well. I would say that if it is a street wheel, stick with the 7" wide wheel to avoid fitment issues. If you are autocrossing or tracking the car, get the widest wheel your class will allow as it will give a benefit in handling.
As for the tires, I'd likely go with the Bridgestone for the simple fact that the rt-615 was designed a good 3-4 years ago and a lot has happened in the tire industry in that span. The Bridgestone will likely outperform the Azenis hands down. With either one of those tires, wet weather driving will suck.
My $0.02.

Go pick up the latest issue of Grassroots Motorosports mag. They did a great tire test including the azenis, re-11, re01, ecsta xs, and r1r. It pretty much concluded that any of the newer compound tire are very good and very close to each other in performance. They each just have their own pros and cons. Test was done on a 89 civic si too.
I just picked up some xs's for $88 ea from tire rack. Hope to try them out soon.

My CRX will be driven on the street, probably my daily driver. I couldn't justify 15x8 for a DD, especially since there are only 4 tires I've found on tirerack that are 225/45/15, and I am REALLY not going to run slicks on the street. I think that I'll stick with 205s and 7" wide rims. I do think I will go with the RE-11s or Kumho Ecsta XSs. A friend has Ecsta MXs on his 350Z. They are rather nice, and from the reviews, the XSs are better in every way. And, the are under $90 a tire (plus shipping). I've been rocking Kumhos for a while, so, I think I might just go with those.
I may have to try to find a copy of GRM. Which month specificly are you refering to?
Thanks for the input!

That tire is no longer made...it has been replaced by the 912 which is better in a lot of ways and is assymetrical vs directional.
